THUNDERBIRDS TRAINING REGEMENT
Once each week the team will convene for PT and a skills element. Each week the skill element will build upon the previous week’s skill. There is a “three strikes” policy implemented on this schedule, unless prior exemption is approved from the Commanding Officer and the Tactical Chief.*** If a member does not show up for training three times, disciplinary action in the form of involuntary suspension is taken.
The training PT exercise consists of no less than:
- 1.5 mile run. A minimum of 20 min for women, 16 min for men
- 5 sets of 15 Hindu pushups min
- 5 sets of 10 pull-ups min
- 5 sets of 30 dips min
- 5 sets of 20 dolphins min
- 5 sets of 10 lat pull-ups min
- 5 sets of (?) upside down pushups
- 5 sets of, the burning four (slow squats)
The maintenance to be conducted by individual members on their won workout between sessions is strongly encouraged. It is as follows:
- 1 mile run.
- 2 sets of 15 Hindu pushups min
- 2 sets of 10 pull-ups min
- 2 sets of 30 dips min
- 2 sets of 10 dolphins min
- 2 sets of 10 lat pull-ups min
- 2 sets of (?) upside down pushups
- 2 sets of, the burning four (slow squats)
In addition to the weekly PT/skills training, every two months there will be one field exercise utilizing the skills that have been covered up to that point. Unless prior exemption is approved from the Commanding Officer and the Tactical Chief members are not allowed to miss one of these exercises. Disciplinary action in the form of involuntary suspension will be taken in the event of said infraction.
The main goal is to demonstrate a marked and qualitative improvement of 50% from the time of enrollment and to instill a disciplined work ethic.

A Brief Explanation of Exercises:
Full-Scale Exercises
Full-scale exercises involve:
- An extensive planning process.
- Actual deployment and movement of personnel and equipment.
- Activation of an emergency operations center (EOC) or the use of a field command post.
- A critique or debriefing period.
Field Exercises
- Functional field exercises are designed to evaluate specific components of an emergency response.
- These exercises involve a simulated incident with agency personnel performing and managing various components of the event, and may occur in an EOC or in the field.
Tabletop Exercises
- Tabletop exercises involve a discussion and problem-solving session with agency personnel to determine if adequate policies, procedures and resources exist to manage an emergency.
Drills – “practice sessions” for specific skills, functions or procedures. An example of a drill would be a compass course.
Orientations
- Orientations involve just what the name implies, i.e., orienting personnel to a plan, procedure or concept.
- In an orientation, the focus is on training and familiarization with roles, procedures, responsibilities and personalities in an organization’s emergency management system.
ALL ELEMENTS OF THE TEAM NEED TO BE EXERCISED FROM THE FIELD TEAM TO THE INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM AND THE SUPPORT TEAM. At least annually they should exercise together.
